Adopted in 2013, the EU Guidelines on the promotion and protection of freedom of religion or belief contain toolkits and directions on how the EU should preserve and support freedom of religion or belief in its external action.

This document aims to offer an orientation to European policies aimed at the protection of people of all faiths and none and the encouragement of interreligious dialogue throughout the world.

In these guidelines you can find information about the international human rights standards on freedom of religion or belief and about EU institutions’ and EU Member States’ political lines used in contact with third countries and with international and civil society organizations. They also provide officials with practical guidance on how to prevent violations of freedom of religion or belief, to analyze cases, and to react effectively to violations wherever they occur.
